The Bruce County Public Library requires a Casual Part-time Library Clerk to work in the Walkerton branch. The successful candidate will not have regularly scheduled hours. The incumbent will also have the opportunity to accept shifts in surrounding branches to provide relief staffing for vacation and sick time of scheduled employees. Hours may include evenings and weekends. Duties will include circulation of materials, collection maintenance, information services, reader’s advisory and library programming.

Qualifications:
• Minimum grade 12 education
• Superior interpersonal, communication and organization skills
• Excellent computer skills
• Strong ability to successfully multitask in a busy environment
• Ability to work independently while successfully promoting the mandate of the Library
• Strong customer service background
• Supports the Canadian Library Association’s Statement on Intellectual Freedom

Assets:

• Experience working in a public library
• Experience working with the Dewey Decimal Classification system
• Registration in the Library EXCEL program.

The newly-released book is expected to follow Kearsley’s previous titles onto bestseller lists in North America and Europe. Set in England, Scotland, Belgium and Russia, The Firebird traces the steps Nicola Marter must take to unlock the mystery behind a small antique carving. Nicola uses her own gift of ‘seeing’ previous owners of the carving, and the even more powerful insights of a former lover.  As always, Kearsley intrigues and delights her readers by interweaving romantic and historical threads.

In her girlhood and teen years, the classic Carnegie library in downtown Port Elgin was a favourite spot of the aspiring writer. After leaving for studies and work in a museum, Susanna Kearsley returned here to waitress and write. She recalls, “Working mostly late at night, I wrote my second novel, Mariana, and submitted it to Transworld Publishers’ Catherine Cookson Fiction Prize competition. Four days before Christmas, I learned that I’d won.” From that “best of Christmases” she has gone on to more success, while remaining the same down-to-earth neighbour and friend.

The Firebird will particularly interest readers of two previous Kearsley novels, The Shadowy Horses and The Winter Sea. All three books will be available at the May 11 event.

Friends of Port Elgin Branch Library is a registered charity, raising funds to support programs and services of our library. New members are always welcome, and can join at the library during regular hours or at Friends’ events.

Bruce Area Solid Waste Recycling is a not-for-profit blue box recycling organization dedicated to improving the environment of our area.

Bruce County Take It Back Pamphlet - The Take It Back Program gives residents in Bruce County the opportunity to conveniently take their used products/materials to participating retailers, vendors and organizations for reuse, recycling or safe disposal.

Save On Energy Fridge & Freezer PickUp - This program offers to pick up older refrigerators and freezers as well as window air conditioners and dehumidifiers from residents of Ontario and fully decommission them in an environmentally-friendly way.

Bale Wrap Recycling - A number of municipalities in Bruce County work in partnership with Think Plastics Inc. to collect, process and reuse used agricultural bale wrap. Without a recycling program this material would either be burned or landfilled.

Electronics Recycling - The goal of the E-waste recycling program is to keep more of these electronics from ending up in landfills and to encourage more responsible reuse and safe recycling opportunities.

Empty Pesticide Container Return Program (Agricultural) - The CleanFARMS empty container return program is one of the most successful industry-led voluntary recycling programs in the world, due to participation of Canadian farmers. Conscientious farmers across the country return over 70% of all empty crop protection product containers annually.

Sharps Disposal -Each year Canadians use approximately 7 million syringes at home, for health care purposes. The improper disposal of syringes and other sharps in garbage or recycling containers poses a health hazard to both the community, sanitation workers and our environment. Instead syringes and needles can be returned in approved bio-medical waste containers to your local pharmacy or health care provider.

Orange Drop – The Orange Drop Program is a free, safe, easy way to dispose of household products that require special handling. Fully funded by industry, this network of collection sites accepts nine materials.
