    Story Time Adventures

    Location: Tara EarlyON, Tara Community Centre. Come along for a story time adventure with an Early Years Educator and Bruce County Library staff through stories and activities to help celebrate Family Literacy Day. Be creative and have fun engaging in a variety of art, literacy and numeracy activities. Contact your local branch for registration.

    After School Club - The Great Stuffy Sleepover

    To recognize Family Literacy Day, we’re hosting a Stuffy Sleepover for After School Club. Bring a stuffed friend to the Library, then leave them with Library staff for an overnight adventure. Come back the next day to pick up your stuffy and find out what happened at the sleepover.

About this Library

So what is there to discover?

Tara has had a library since February 14, 1890. Tara joined the Bruce County Library system in 1945 for a fee of $25.00.
The current library building was built in 1988 through a Community Project sponsored by the Tara & District Kinsmen.

Notable dates & Events

1898 – First weeded books, “Swiss Family Robinson”, The Innocents at Home” and “The Romance of War”
1915 – Purchase of Encyclopedia Britannica for $159.50
1916 – Electricity in the library!
1929 – Poster placed insisting silence and good order
1934 – Library inspector recommends buying an atlas
1941 – 131 patrons
1953 – Received grant of $357!
1998 – Computers and internet access!
