About this Library
So what is there to discover?
Tara has had a library since February 14, 1890. Tara joined the Bruce County Library system in 1945 for a fee of $25.00.
The current library building was built in 1988 through a Community Project sponsored by the Tara & District Kinsmen.
Notable dates & Events
1898 – First weeded books, “Swiss Family Robinson”, The Innocents at Home” and “The Romance of War”
1915 – Purchase of Encyclopedia Britannica for $159.50
1916 – Electricity in the library!
1929 – Poster placed insisting silence and good order
1934 – Library inspector recommends buying an atlas
1941 – 131 patrons
1953 – Received grant of $357!
1998 – Computers and internet access!
