Summer Reading Club 2024 Kicking Off in Walkerton
TD Summer Reading Club is back and ready to kick off with an ‘out-of-this-world’ party. This year Bruce County Public Library (BCPL) will host their annual Summer Reading Club Kick-off party at their Walkerton Branch, located at 253 Durham Street East, on Saturday, June 15, and will run from 10am – 3pm. The event will feature a foam party, Wild Ontario’s Birds of Prey show and an exhibit, the opportunity to learn Jedi moves with a Star Warrior from Inspiring Imaginations and attend readings with local authors. There will also be interactive booths from NII, the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre, NPX, the Blue Water Astronomical Society and more. While you’re there, you can register for the Summer Reading Club! Can’t make it to the main event? No worries! All BCPL Branches will be hosting their own mini kick-off program, packed with fun activities for all ages.
After a record-breaking 2023, BCPL is excited to see what 2024 brings. How can you participate? Sign up using the Beanstack app, read books, log minutes, and earn badges. Plus, there will be monthly draws for lots of amazing prizes. Beanstack is a free service provided by the Bruce County Public Library that uses fun challenges and rewards as an incentive to keep children reading. Children who read for fun have higher literacy scores and will head back to school in September ready to learn.
Starting in July, each BCPL Branch will host weekly space-themed programs, so be sure to pick up your SRC Brochure for the dates and times of these programs. The brochure also includes information about special events happening all summer long! Special guests this year include Scales Nature Park, Wild Ontario Birds of Prey, Hands-On Exotics, Discovering Dinosaurs Natural Touring Museum, and folk duo Panzerotti and Sunshine. Brand new this year is BCPL’s outdoor movies to be hosted around Bruce County.
