About
Southampton's first library began as a private collection of books gathered by James Howe after his relocation from England in 1851. This collection became a public library in 1886. On October 27, 1956, the Etta Shields Memorial Library was constructed and joined the Bruce County Public Library system in 1967, further enriching its legacy of community service.
